Swakopmund to Kombaku Lodge
Day 7 - 28th January 2007
Whooppeeeee - tarmac! 8.00am start and
on the trans-Kalahari highway. Transition between brown sand and eventual green
lush vegetation as we moved further north. Fuel and lunch at Omaru, where we
were cornered by a lady writing for “The Namibian” and the “Namibian Times”, who
photographs us with our bikes for the Friday edition. Mike plugs books (guide to
Namibia - available in all good bookshops). See bat. Have amazing meat pies and
photograph local kids on the bikes in the fuel stop.
Eventually get to our destination for
the night, Kambaku Lodge, an oasis of tranquillity! Run by the charming Annette
(and her equally charming 6 year old daughter, Hannah).
Glen, Mike, Matthew &
John went for a walk around the park and found numerous warthog & antelope.
Excellent rooms (single occupancy on this occasion), and a fantastic evening
meal of game accompanied by wine brought along by Mike, made by his son.
Retired
to the bar for further merriment.
473 kms.
